Healthy Living Facts
You can't overstate the importance of water, particularly if you are exercising. Even a small water deficiency can radically affect how your body performs. When you don't drink enough, your blood won't flow properly, and your digestive tract doesn't run smoothly either.
 
       
GORP - The Ultimate Trail Food

GORP, or Good Old Raisins and Peanuts as it's known to many, is the perfect portable and power-packed snack for the trail. Providing a nutritional wallop in every handful, GORP will keep you going for hours. Here are a few variations on the basic combination:

Trail Peak Trail Mix

Mix together:
  • 1 cup Chex cereal, rice, corn, wheat or mixed
  • 1 cup M&Ms
  • 1 cup salted peanuts (or dried roasted peanuts)
  • 1 cup raisins
Place the mix in a ziplock plastic bag and take on the trail!

Mixed GORP

Mix together:
  • 1 cup mixed nuts (or dried roasted mixed nuts)
  • 1 cup dried Fruit Bits
  • 1 cup M&Ms
  • 1 cup roasted sunflower kernels
Place the mix in a ziplock plastic bag and take on the trail!

Good-for-you-GORP

Mix together:
  • 2-½ cups low-fat granola
  • 1 cup dried pears
  • ½ cup M&Ms
Place the mix in a ziplock plastic bag and take on the trail!

Energy Balls

Mix together:
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • ½ cup peanut butter
  • 1-¾ cups chopped figs
  • 1 cup chopped apricots
Roll into balls. Recipe should make about 33 servings (calories per serving: 72; shelf life: 14 days) (Source: Good Old Raisins and Peanuts, gorp.com)
