What is Kawartha Lakes Pathways to Health?
Our Funders
The Kawartha Lakes Pathways to Health initiative would not be possible without the generous financial support of the Kawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation (www.kawarthasmallbusiness.com) and Industry Canada (strategis.ic.gc.ca). |
Kawartha Lakes Pathways to Health is a key initiative of the City of Kawartha Lake's Health for Life initiative. The Pathways to Health committee works to encourage healthy lifestyles among residents of and visitors to the City of Kawartha Lakes, by encouraging four-season non-motorized use of the many recreational trails found in the region.
In an effort to achieve the goal of increased physical activity levels in the City of Kawartha Lakes, the Committee has:
- created a comprehensive inventory of public trails
- created a regularly updated web site, for both resident and non-resident use, that supplies a wide variety of information related to trails and physical activity
- developed a communication strategy encouraging the general public to access trail and healthy lifestyle information through our web site
- developed and implemented a media campaign for trail-related events promoting the benefits of being physically active
"Our Mission [is] to promote increased physical activity levels on the region's many recreational trails in all four seasons." - Pathways to Health Committee (2004)
What is Health For Life?
Dedicated to building and supporting healthy communities, the Health for Life community initiative encourages healthy lifestyle choices and promotes the importance of eating well, being active and being smoke-free to the goal of life-long good health.
Since the initiative's inception in 1998, more than 60 organizations in Haliburton County, Northumberland County and the City of Kawartha Lakes have committed to working together to advocate for healthy public policy, to raise awareness of health issues, and to reduce barriers to healthy living.
